I’m excited to announce I’m the proud owner of a new smoker grill. I’ve been wanting one for years and finally have a large enough deck and backyard for one. If you don’t have a wood-fire grill, these Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Burgers work perfectly fine on a gas or charcoal grill.
Let’s start with the marinade and ingredients you’ll need. I’ve made this recipe super simple and jarred teriyaki sauce is all you’ll need to flavor the chicken breasts.
Ingredients for Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Burgers
- Teriyaki sauce: any sauce will do, however, I suggest using one with a thicker consistency to better coat the chicken.
- Canned pineapple slices: add the juice to the teriyaki sauce marinade for a bit of extra flavor
- Lettuce and other desired toppings such as tomatoes, avocado, onion, and cheese
- Hamburger buns: Sesame seed topped buns pair well in this recipe
- Chicken breasts: Use fillets for optimal size and thickness. Grill them and serve them whole on the burger.
What Type of Chicken to Use for Teriyaki Chicken Burgers
While chicken burgers often use ground chicken, chicken breast fillets offer a unique and delicious way to enjoy grilled burgers. When smoked or cooked to the proper temperature, chicken breasts are super moist on the grill. Tips for Making This Recipe
- Marinade the chicken breasts for at least 2 hours for the best flavor. You can even marinade overnight.
- Look for teriyaki sauce that’s thicker, like a glaze. The liquid type won’t coat as well.
- Add a bit of pineapple juice to the marinade for extra flavor.
- Let the chicken breasts sit at room temp for 20-30 minutes before grilling for more even cooking.
- Don’t overcook the chicken. Grill just to an internal temp of 165° F. for juicy chicken breasts.
- Sear the pineapple slices on the grill once the chicken is cooked for extra flavor
- Serve these delicious grilled chicken burgers with Crispy Baked Wedges for a perfect and satisfying meal!
How to Store Leftovers
If you prefer to double the recipe or end up grilling more chicken than needed, you can store the chicken in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
To serve leftovers, reheat the chicken breast then assemble the burger.

Grilling the chicken adds the smoky flavor and is so delicious with the teriyaki sauce. The pineapples are a good addition too!
Ridiculously good! Teryaki sauce and pineapples in savoury dishes are my two favourite things ever, but I’ve never combined them into one dish! No doubt, these are my favourite chicken burgers from now on!
